Applet

Applet is basically a Java Program which can be embedded in a web page. Java Applets are different from a standard Java Application in the sense that whereas Java Application can access system resources, system files and serial devices on the local computer, a Java applet can not do so. Actually, this is necessary from the point of view of security. Otherwise any open website could change the configuration and settings of the visitor's system or access any information on visitor's computer. Applets have given a very helpful boost to Java and also have made the web more dynamic, interactive and entertaining.
